Stone Restoration
Stoneguard enjoys industry-wide recognition as the leading name in building restoration. Our team of stonemasons brings an unrivalled wealth of experience and expertise to every project, employing a carefully considered blend of traditional and innovative techniques and materials. Stone restoration typically involves the repair of damaged areas, cracks, or missing pieces and involves several key steps:
- Grinding and honing removes unevenness, scratches, and stains from the stone surface.
- Polishing enhances the shine and smoothness of the stone surface. This technique involves the use of abrasives and polishing compounds to achieve a reflective finish.
- Sealing protects the stone from future harm, staining, and deterioration.
To improve the colour and appearance of stone, we can apply additional techniques, such as colour enhancing sealers, stain removal poultices, or specialised stain treatments. These techniques work hand in hand with the installation of replacement stones, carefully matched and hand-produced to invisibly replace worn, eroded or damaged originals.
Brickwork Restoration, Repairs & Replacement
We provide a comprehensive range of restoration services to historic and modern brickwork. Our mortar services include repointing, replacing and making repairs to cracked mortar, as well as removing stains and waterproofing/sealing. We can tint existing and new bricks to match an architect’s colour choice or to enhance surrounding design elements. The restoration of any aged façade typically requires the replacement or repair of brickwork. These bricks were produced prior to modern metric sizing, and in some cases, prior to stand-ard imperial sizes. The replacement of these bricks, often handmade, can present a challenge.
Through decades of specialised brickwork projects, Stoneguard has developed close relationships with small brick manufacturers, who collaborate with our in-house designers to replicate bricks. These can be produced to custom colour, size and finish and can even be dis-tressed to achieve a realistic ‘weathered’ appearance. For cases where the quality of bricks requiring replacement does not warrant specialist manufacture, we have developed restoration mortars for our on-site repair teams. Once the repairs are complete, our experienced operatives can distress the bricks themselves to match the repair to the original finish and appearance.
Our complete range of brickwork restoration services includes:
- Wholesale / localised rake-out and re-pointing of heritage mortar
- Wholesale / localised replacement of defective bricks
- Brickwork render and restoration
- Brick tinting to march architect’s choice of colour
- Repointing, replacing, repairs to cracked mortar, stain removal and waterproofing/sealing
